Au Touriste is a historic Parisian house specializing in leather trunks and hunting goods. Founded in 1847 by Léon Piault, C. Flandin’s son-in-law and successor, the company quickly became a leading name in its field. By the beginning of the 20th century, Au Touriste had expanded its product line to include luggage and automobile trunks
.The company was known for its storefront at 36bis Boulevard de l’Opéra, filled with trunks, bags, suitcases, blankets, and travel items of all kinds. Au Touriste was particularly recognized for its travel bags, often covered in pigskin or morocco. The interior of these bags was either empty or fitted with all the bottles and utensils used at the time
.Au Touriste also developed a unique monogram canvas in the early 20th century, available in two different shades: green and brown. This canvas was presented in a jacquard weave, similar to the first Louis Vuitton monogram canvas. The company also created a modern logo in the shape of an arrow, which is still engraved on the brass locks and toggles attached to the luggage.
Today, Au Touriste continues to be a respected name in the world of luxury trunks and travel goods
.It is currently being revived by Luvanis, a holding company responsible for Moynat’s resurgence and sale to LVMH, while it took over Au Depart as well as other storied brands.
