When is a pattern original ? Au Touriste, a currently dormant French trunk maker launched its house pattern that looks eerily similar to Louis Vuitton’s Damier pattern. I subsequently got tagged in a video that, like many others, highlighted that Louis Vuitton used motifs and patterns from various parts of the world and incorporated them into its designs. And while I wrote 600 words on this, they didn’t make the cut as it would have been too nuanced of a piece for the internet. So now, you may enjoy this legal summary of why being the first to come up with a pattern or design does not entitle someone to call dips on it commercially.
Until next week, stay cozy
Teddy the Perfumer
Teddy is launching his perfume brand later this summer. In the run-up to his launch, he sent me a trial set. We connected a couple of months ago when he first started his account because it is a no-fluff explanatory approach to perfumes, like the Fabricateurialist sans yapping. All three of his creations are quite interesting: a fugere/barbershop fragrance called Passing Strangers, Summer in Love does what it says on the label, and Banane au Chocolate is an ode to his daughter. Take a look, give him a follow, sign up for updates about his launch, and maybe even get a sample set.
