Finding your personal style - find yourself first. It’s a neverending quest and repeatedly raised question, how do you find your personal style/what should I wear ? Let me explain why I do not engage in this content and reply with my best VP of Unaccountable speak whenever it gets brought up.

While A LOT of content creators like to feed this by proposing monochromatic capsules or whatever brands yield the highest LTK commissions - no judgment, we all want to get paid for our time, it’s just obvious at times. However, no one ever tells people that it’s a process. Sure, you can go out and copycat someone and throw the chance of developing taste, preferences, and experience by the wayside. Or go on that little journey called life and embrace the journey without knowing when you will arrive at the final stop.

The way I acquired the knowledge I am sharing was by being notoriously out of the loop with online fashion content between 2013-2022. This can partially be attributed to being opinionated af, but engaging in a physical topic in the physical world by trying on things, browsing boutiques, and talking to people will expose you to a topic much more organically than any algorithm’s feedback-loop ever could.

A huge aspect of fashion is the physical context it is in. The whole Peeky Blinders craze looked entirely out of place when encountered in the wild during that show’s heydays. Succession, which is essentially white-collar workwear is fairly appropriate in most settings, so when you are looking to find your style, which will either happen without your input and determined by your environment, or in a more informed way by engaging with the stylistic choices that your lifestyle allows for.

I only developed this affinity for Italian apparel because I was exposed to the country and culture in a professional and personal capacity since essentially birth. All of this filters your viable options before we get down to the nitty gritty such as shapes and colors. Like you are an autumn/winter/summer/spring type but work in finance ? Those bold colors that the color analysis suggests ain’t gonna fly during 80/168 hours a week, and we are not even accounting for sleep.

TLDR, I know that most of you are here to learn about companies that make “good stuff”. For those who are on the journey of finding out how they look their best and most authentic - going to the stores, trying things on, talking to people IRL, and picking up a random fashion magazine from another country is going to shape your style sensitivities much more than any opinion from people online who don’t know your day-to-day.

The Italian denim conundrum

Hello there, Japanese denim purist. Take a seat or skip this post - whatever you are more comfortable with. Disclosure - I don't have a horse in this race. So before diving into the most popular names in Italian denim, the discourse around "Japanese denim is better than anything else" is fostered by a lot of parroting and romanticizing the mythicism of post-WW2 repro culture. And very acknowledgment of Japanese denim being sold to everyone who wants it with a factory floor of Jukis or Singers which then apply the exact same sewing methods to the denim fabric.
